It started when I was 6 and my Mother returned from wherever to pick me up from my Grandparents, who raised me from birth.
For the next eleven years, we hitchhiked to several locations from Oregon to California, and then on to Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and into Cali again. The trip to Minnesota doesn’t count because we took the train to meet the Father I was told was killed in the Army …. but that’s another story.
My last hitchhiking trip was with my new wife, who braved the adventure of going from Astoria, Oregon to San Jose, CA, almost 61 years ago. And yes — she is not going to do that again!
